In 2018, Wycombe Multicultural Organisation received a £36,330 grant to improve Hilltop Community Centre by installing air conditioning and upgrading the toilets.
The grant came from Biffa Award; a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK, as part of the Landfill Communities Fund. In addition, funding was received from Wycombe District Council (£3,633) which has contributed to the total received from Biffa Award.
Hilltop Community Centre building has served the local community for more than 30 years and has been run by WMCO since 1995 (25 years). Through community consultation we identified that the toilets were in desperate need of modernisation. They had seen increasing usage, but the lack of any update since the building was built. Also, the halls were very stuffy and hot due to poor ventilation.
The male, female, and disabled toilets were completely gutted and replaced with new units, sinks, wall panels, lighting, flooring and water-saving taps and urinals. The work was undertaken by Prestige Property Management Marlow.
Air conditioning was installed to keep the temperature cooler especially in the summer months or when a large number of people were present, or taking part in exercise.
